OLD COVERS WITH NEW CLOTHES!!!

THE BASEBALLS will have a problem in 2027: how will the band celebrate its twentieth anniversary, after what it did in 2017 for the tenth?

But now ...

THE BASEBALLS is 10 years old! And there are many reasons to celebrate because when Sam, Digger and Basti look back, they see a success story that is second to none. With their debut album "Strike!" (2009) they not only conquered Germany, Austria and Switzerland, but also got on the 1st position in several European rankings, received the Platinum Disc and played in sold out shows.  Because of that, they have won several prestigious awards such as EMMA, EBBA and two ECHO and released four albums to date, where THE BASEBALLS take hits of the current time giving them a new look of the 50s and 60s. Their most recent album "Hit Me Baby ... ", released on September 9, 2016, once again reached TOP TEN in the German, Austrian and Swiss rankings.

However THE BASEBALLS is not just a cover band, it also has own songs and the album "Game Day" (2014) is a reliable proof of this talent and writes a new page in the group's book. So it's no surprise that for their tenth anniversary, the band does not just want a cliché album with their most successful songs compiled and that's it. So, what can they do? An idea, a little crazy, most likely unrealistic and incredibly tempting. Sam talks about it: "In 2010, we were in Memphis and visited the Sun Studio, where Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, B.B. King and several other legends played their first hits. So we thought: It would be great to record an album here. But that was simply a random comment, none of us believed that would happen. "

And it happened.

In these ten years on the music scene, THE BASEBALLS met the right people and so, in early May 2017, the band met in Memphis, Tennessee and then they were back in Sun Studio, this time not for a visit, but to record an album. Their best album. Everyone knows that Sam, Digger and Basti formed the band because they had one commom denominator: their love of Elvis Presley's music, so it stands to reason that they wanted to thank the King of Rock n Roll for these 10 years in this way. "The idea was to rewrite our most successful songs in Elvis' original style," explains Digger and he adds: "That meant guitar, drums, bass but no piano. So some songs had to be completely rearranged. It was exciting to pick up the songs back, which we've played for 10 years, and one more time they're new. Where previously there was a piano, we used an acoustic guitar or an electric guitar or both. "

The band also feels a special aura: "As soon as you enter the studio, which is very small, you begin to think about great music that these walls have heard. At that time playing on those walls was something very special," Sam says. "Even in the bathroom, you show respectful and think: Guys, whoever was here deserves all our respect! That respect, you can listen in the album."

In "The Sun Sessions", you will find great hits like ‘Umbrella’, ‘Bleeding Love’ and ‘Baby One More Time’, as well as four new songs: ‘Thinking Out Loud’ (Ed Sheeran), ‘Love On The Brain’ (Rihanna), 'Love Yourself' (Justin Bieber) and 'Bad' (Michael Jackson).

"We said let's take a look at Bieber. Many men have dreamed with this," Basti laughs. "Our motto always was: to get songs from great artists and arranged them as we listen to them. 'Love Yourself' is an example of this." In 'Thinking Out Loud' the band's work was hard. "We experimented a lot until the idea of completely removing the chorus arises," Basti says. As a result, a song very different from the original version, a fact that never happened before. " People need to hear the full song until you know what it is," he adds. Ever 'Love On The Brain' did not need many changes. "We do not need to do many changes. It seems like Rihanna discovered the 50’s thanks to our version of Umbrella," Digger comment.

"In the beginning, we said: Our goal is to play in all places of the world. About that, we are a little better than before, " Basti laughs. At a local club in Memphis, they do an jam, first in the land of Rock 'n' Roll. "We were always a bit afraid that Americans would have preconceptions and say: now the Germans come here and want to show us how to make Rock 'n' Roll. But very soon we realized: the people was very interested in these versions."
